We all know how important movement is to our overall health, but sometimes it seems like there’s just not enough hours in the day! Between work, getting the kids to and from school, household chores and errands- devoting time to one’s body seems near impossible! But, here’s the good news. It is possible! Sometimes we just need a little push, some creativity, or inspiration. Here are some tricks that have helped me fit in more movement, even when I’m pressed for time:

Wake Up Earlier

Oh, I know. It’s so hard to get out of that warm, cozy bed. But seriously, even if you wake up just 5 minutes earlier and use that extra time to move, your body will be happier throughout the day. It may even inspire you to move more.Think of dogs and cats. The first thing they do after waking up is a big stretch. Try that tomorrow morning. I promise you won’t regret it!

Multi-Task

No time? No problem! Be creative and find more ways to move while doing your everyday tasks. My best friend, who is a busy working professional and mom told be she does squats for 3 minutes while brushing her teeth. A win-win situation for her teeth and her tush!

Do Something You Love

Sounds obvious, but I’ve known lots of people who have started a workout routine, but eventually fallen off the bandwagon because they didn’t really enjoy that type of movement. Choose something that’s fun, something you love. You’ll find yourself carving out time involuntarily because you love doing it and don’t want to miss it!

Invest

If you’re having a challenging time starting a fitness routine, investing in a program or some private sessions might be the way to go. When you’re spending money, you’re less likely to blow it off and more likely to take it seriously. My clients rarely cancel because they know it’s hard to reschedule and they don’t want to be charged a late fee!

Buddy Up

Finding a workout partner is another way to keep you accountable. Set up a weekly time to go for a walk or a class with a friend. Moving and girl talk. What else could be better?
